My friends, this is a long post, but please bear with me.
It was a valiant effort and you certainly did your part, but I was informed that my book, “Terminal Tendencies” has not been chosen for a publishing contract. All of you should receive an email from Amazon informing you of that if you haven’t already, but don’t lose heart, as I haven’t.
This just means that we are taking a different fork in the road.
I essentially have two choices now, I can submit the book to other publishers in an effort to get a contract and wait and wait or I can self-publish.
Since self-publishing is faster and doesn’t preclude using a traditional publisher in the future, I plan on taking that path.
One of my favorite authors, the late Vince Flynn was rejected more than 60 times, but went on to publish multiple New York Times best sellers, and he started out using self-publishing. He is just one example of many that have had great success using that method and I hope to join that list one day. In fact, you may find this article interesting:
http://www.onlinecollege.org/2010/05/17/50-iconic-writers-who-were-repeatedly-rejected/

It lists many well known authors who suffered numerous rejections for books that went on to great acclaim. Many of them will likely shock you as they did me.

I don’t regret making the attempt as it has served to introduce me to a lot of new people who are interested in the book and it has energized some old friendships because of the way people pitched in so readily to help me get the nominations I needed to get Amazon’s attention.
I will attempt to wrap up my final edit of the book this week and then start the self-publishing process. My goal now is to have the book available for purchase as close to January 1st as possible.
I’m getting a little long here, so let me close by making one more request. Please continue to help me get the word out about the book as you have already been doing so well, and keep in touch via Facebook and the website for future news.
Thanks again, my friends!

As of 1:15 today, the book is back in Hot & Trending! Thanks so much for nominating it and telling your friends about it. If that last sentence doesn’t apply to you, then get busy. You are running out of time. ūüôā

I’ve been busy on the final edits for Terminal Tendencies, so I haven’t made much progress on the new book, but I did find an additional ¬†editor to help with it and I plan to send her at least four chapters by the end of the weekend. Thanks, Amy!

No, this isn’t a reference to Les Miserables. It refers to my book having one day left in its Kindle Scout campaign, but then you knew that. To be more accurate, it has about 40 hours left as I write this.

We achieved our goal of getting it in the Hot & Trending before 10 pm last night and it stayed there every hour except for the 4:15 update and it fell off again at 9:15. So far, it isn’t back, but I have hopes that you will get it back in there before Saturday at midnight.

Of course, being in the top 20 doesn’t assure a book deal and not being in it isn’t the kiss of death either, so I am not going to sweat it… too much.

I know this is getting old, but we are in the home stretch. You know the drill, but here is the link once again.

I just checked the Hot & Trending Top 20 on Kindle Scout and the book is back! Much thanks to all of you out there sharing this with your friends.

Saturday is the last day, so let’s see if we can keep the book in the top 20 for just two more days. If you haven’t nominated it yet, please do. If you have been meaning to tell a friend, now is the time.

It has been a bad day so far. I woke up around 4:30 and checked the status of the book. It had fallen out of the Hot & Trending top 20 again and so far today, it hasn’t made it back.

I sent out some more requests for nominations and I hope that comes to fruition. Any help that any of you could give in that regard would be much appreciated.

Based on most of what I found in the top 20, I should have written a dystopian sci-fi¬†paranormal romance novel, but I just can’t and won’t.

Anyway, I am hopeful that since so many of the books in the current Hot & Trending top 20 are in their last day or last few days in a couple of cases, perhaps my book will find its way back in.

In the meantime, I have decided to share an interesting little tidbit I heard from an older family member. When I told him about my book, which I had somehow neglected to do earlier in the process, he told me that my great-uncle had been a friend of Mickey Spillane(The writer of Mike Hammer fame). This was news to me. My great-uncle had told me of many interesting experiences in his life, but somehow he either neglected to tell me that one or he told me¬†when I was at an age at which I didn’t appreciated it. Young ones, listen to these stories. before you know it, these important people in your life are gone and so are their stories and wisdom unless you stored it up while they were alive. He also told me that they liked to go fishing together somewhere in South Carolina, but he couldn’t remember where. I did find out that Mickey Spillane moved to Murrells Inlet after flying over the area while a fighter pilot and saying that he wanted to move there.

Now I need to go read some of his books and talk to some other older relatives to see what I can piece together. I think I may have a place for something like this in a future book.

Please keep sharing with others about the campaign. It is a long haul, so we can still pull it out. It isn’t scheduled to end until December 21st, so until then, keep up the good work.

Thanks!

I think I am obsessing over this too much. It is back in the Hot & Trending 20 at 20. But let’s keep vigilant. It seems to update around 20 minutes after the hour. The fact that I know that proves I am obsessing over it, doesn’t it? I know, but it’s my baby.

The book has dropped out of the Hot & Trending 20, so let’s do what we can to get it back. Share it on Facebook, email it, tweet about it, whatever. What replaced it makes it doubly hard to take; A vampire romance novel. Oh the ignominy!

Thanks

Thanks to all of you out there reading and nominating my book, it was a very good weekend. As I type this, the book is currently number one on the Top 20 Hot & Trending, though, to be honest, I am not sure the order in this is significant. It could just be a random ordering of the top 20. But even if that is the case, you have kept it in the top 20 and that is great! I really appreciate it.

Please continue to talk it up and get more people to keep it there.

Thanks again!

Things have been up and down since yesterday, but mostly up. The book has been number 1 in the hot and trending top 20 quite a few times and I have also seen it 3, 4, 5, 9, 12, 15, 16, and currently 20.

Thanks for all your help so far. Please keep it up. Please invite your friends to like the JB Collum page on Facebook, etc.
